In earlier times, an office was just a building space where people used to show up, sit at their desks, work from 9 to 5, and then go home. However, the typical office has changed over the years.

In the early 2000s, companies started introducing new amenities into their office to entice employees to stay for a longer time. These amenities were designed keeping the personal and professional needs of employees in mind. However, these seemingly impressive perks also came with a price. Employees did start spending more time in the office without even moving a few hundred feet away from their desks.

But again, things changed after the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the motivation of employees to come to the office is “connection.” In fact, connecting with colleagues has become of more value to them than any amenity. Below are three strategies you can use to redesign your office for the future.

1. Connection

One of the best ways to make your office space a real amenity for employees is by ensuring human connection. It means you’ve got to prioritize spaces where organic connections are possible. Also, you need to pay attention to in-person communications by thinking beyond water-cooler chats.

2. Flexibility

A majority of the workforce still wants to spend more time working remotely. Therefore, make sure that your office redesign investments shouldn’t overshadow the need for their flexibility. Offer them the support they want as well as the needed technology and training.

3. Collaboration

In hybrid work, there is always a possibility that employees would be joining the meeting remotely. That’s why you should focus on creating enough collaboration spaces. Additionally, you also need to equip the meeting rooms with desired video, audio, and other collaborative techs to bring your remote employees into the room.

Offices have fundamentally changed over the past decades. Now, it is time for leaders to accept that people are the new amenity of the office. Therefore, they must work on adjusting their expectations and office designs duly.
